Virgilios Erbe was founded as the afterwork project of an ambitious young winemaker.
Unconcerned, full of motivation and with a clear idea of how he wants to make wine, Nick Hanel leased two vineyards in the beautiful Iphofen at the end of 2020. 0,33 hectar of Silvaner and 0,22 hectar of Müller Thurgau planted 1972 both in steep slopes and already certified organic layed in his responsibility ever since.
In 2016 Nick was waitering in a restaurant when his view swiped over a wine shelf and he thought: “I think I should become a winemaker”. He found his way over the natural wine pioneers 2Naturkinder to the vinery of Andi Weigand where he still works.
There he found two friends during the wine harvest of 2020 who became a constant part of the harvest core crew. Dennis Horning and Philipp Schütt took completely different paths into Nick’s life. But from beginning on they were united by the same passion for joy, wine and life in general.
Dennis’ passion for wine started flowering in 2015 as he found a job in a wine shop
without foreseeing the beautiful world he just discovered.
Dennis world lies somewhere between restaurants, bars, wineshops and now the vineyards.
Philipps life as an engineer had brought him even to Antarctica before he
followed his inner voice that made him want to participate at a harvest. Since then wine has taken a central role in his life.
Out of this friendship became a deep connection, there are only few things that tie you more to each other than by now four shared harvests.
Out of this spirit emerged the idea to expand Virgilios Erbe and to convert the project into a venture. Since summer 2024 Virgilios Erbe is the family business of three brothers in souls.
